[edit] Project Goal

The GREdic FAQ project is aimed at compiling an extensive list of frequently asked questions that should answer all questions one may have about the GRE test.

[edit] The FAQ Namespace

In order to make the FAQ pages identifiable from the title (and for other reasons too, see below), a special namespace has been created for the FAQ pages. Thus, the title of any FAQ page should start with the prefix FAQ:.

Among other advantages, this makes it possible to limit the scope of a search to the FAQ only, or to exclude FAQ pages from your search: all you need to do is check or uncheck the FAQ namespace in the search page.

To read more about namespaces, see Help:Namespace.

[edit] Contributing to the FAQ Project

There are (at least) three ways in which you can contribute:

[edit] Ask a question

If you have questions about the GRE test that aren't answered in the FAQ, add your question to the FAQ:Contents page. You should edit the page, find the appropriate section for your question, and then add your question as a new line that should be in the following form:

* [[FAQ:What is my question?]]

Remember to:

  • include the FAQ: prefix,
  • write your question in a question-like form, capitalizing the first letter and ending with a question mark,
  • enclose the question with [[ and ]] in order to make the link live,
  • make a new line for your question,
  • start the line with an asterisk for the bullet.

When you save the page, your question will appear in red, meaning that it is still unanswered. In that way, a visitor who can give an answer to your question can... but that's already another form of contributing, coming up below.

[edit] Answer an unanswered question

When you see a question listed in FAQ:Contents which is in red, and you know something that could be helpful to provide an answer, click on the red link and you will be directed to a page where you can type in your answer.

If you think you know something that could be relevant to answer the question, but you don't feel comfortable enough to write down the answer itself, write anything you might have to the talk page, accessible through the discussion link on the top of the page.

[edit] Improve an answer

If you find a FAQ where the answer is unclear, incomplete, misleading, or you feel you can improve it in any other way, just edit the page and fix it in any way you deem appropriate.
